Clare and I returned to Azerbaijan this week to find Marcy busy (always so busy!) leading this year’s GLOW (Girls Leading Our World) camp in Yengice, Qebele, about 3 hours northwest of the capital Baku. We had such a fantastic time seeing the Azerbaijani and American counselors working so closely together to develop the confidence of the nearly 50 campers between 13-16 years old. Marcy co-directed this year’s camp with PCV Gemma Comito.
In between sessions featuring guest speakers talking about tackling community problems and gender stereotypes and goal setting, the girls did what girls all over America do at camp, like making friendship bracelets, running crazy relay races, singing around a bonfire and making ‘smores and enjoying a late night dance party featuring a unique mix of American pop hits and traditional Azeri tunes.
Check out a few of the photos I posted on our Facebook page of the campers and counselors at GLOW.
